Positive -- by Liz Millsaps

Last summer, some friends of my family came to Charlotte with their baby. This is a miracle child - a happy surprise - born healthy to a 50 year old woman on Valentines Day! We met in a large, noisy restaurant and then another miracle happened: The baby woke up laughing!

We all know that laughter releases endorphins - especially belly laughs. Laughter makes us feel good, but how can we use laughter to enhance our lives? How can laughter work for us? (I believe everything should work FOR me!)

Laughter instantly connects you to your higher self, your soul, your spirit, your God and anyone you happen to be laughing with. It also immediately opens you up and puts you in a position to receive all of your heart's desires.

So, how do we get more laughter into our lives?

We can start by laughing at ourselves. It's not hard. Plus it boosts self esteem. Sometimes my own hypocrisy can keep me laughing for days! Laugh at every time you've ever said, "Why - I would NEVER...." and then you turned around and did that very thing.

Smile for one minuteš. Smiling releases endorphins, as do exercise, love and sex!

Before you pick up the newspaper, surf the web or turn on the TV, state, "I want to see something that makes me laugh." or "Show me something funny." You'll be amazed how it well it works! Listen to silly music! One of my favorite funny songs is "Constipation Blues" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. I love the way he uses his voice and the horns to convey the feeling of the song. It has an uplifting ending, too.

Kids and pets are great fodder for laughter. My cat loves this toy I bought for her. It's a feather, tied to a string, attached to a stick. If I twirl it, my cat moves her head round and round in circles following it with her eyes. She's so silly, it tickles me to death!

Use laughter to break the ice. Or when you know you've goofed up. It really turns things around!

Ask to be surrounded by laughter! Wouldn't it be nice if on your next visit to the hospital/nursing/retirement home, everyone is laughing? Imagine that the next time you go to the grocery store all of the children and employees are laughing. What if your dour neighbor, snooping relative, persnickety boss, always in a crises acquaintance, broken hearted friend, wallowing in self pity co-worker or the person that's a constant thorn in your side spent most of your next encounter laughing?

It's like that old suggestion: When you're nervous around people, imagine them in their underwear! Directing your mind to kooky, nutty, foolish, funny thoughts breaks down old ingrained beliefs - many of which no longer serve you - and frees you to develop new beliefs that actually benefit you.

Now that you're laughing and surrounded by laughter, use it! Meditate. Spend a few minutes letting your mind go completely blank. Then listen to your heart. Positive aspect your problems. Rethink them from your new, happier perspective. Tackle that project you've been putting off. Make lists of wonderful things you want to create in your life. Go wild!

Then, look for more laughter and do it all over again.

May all of the babies in your experience be laughing!
