The Unbearable Lightness of Laughter -- by Cindy Garreton

Laughter is powerful medicine! Physically, it creates serotonins which calm and nurture us as human beings in this very stressful world we live in. Mentally, it can clear your mind as if all your troubles were sucked into vacuum cleaner and promptly delivered to the black hole in the universe. Laughter is the magical sensation that can change our day suddenly, to a brighter frequency.

In feng shui, laughter can be compared to the energy force or chi that runs through our homes and our bodies. When our chi is lifted, we feel lighter and happier, more prepared to deal with mundane responsibilities and stress that has entered our lives. Think about how you feel after a good laugh. You have used your breath, your whole physical body, sound, thoughts, senses and sensitivity because it is so contagious. Imagine using that powerful positive feeling in your home and the moment you walk in, you feel the exuberance.

That is our goal in using the ancient art of feng shui, to make your home "feel" as a light loving place. In conclusion, you and the people who enter your home have a feeling of happiness and balance, therefore, will want to repeat the experience again and again. Similarly, when you are with people who make you laugh a lot, you love being with them.

There are many ways to lift the chi in our homes. One way to create this feeling with feng shui, is to bring the elements of nature into your living space. This can be manifested through use of color or art in a very simple sense. Green depicts the wood element. White represents the metal element. The water element is portrayed with black. Earth element is symbolized by earth tones and yellow. Last but not least, the fire element is represented with, yes, you guessed it, red.

There are many different symbols and ways to bring the elements in and in doing this, create a more balanced space, lifting the chi. Lifting chi can be as simple as changing your thought patterns from a negative thought to a positive one. It can also be keeping things uncluttered and clean, this is very important for the energy in your home. Letting go of unwanted clutter creates a place for new opportunities to say good bye to unused items and items you have grown out of. Clear off a counter or table with old "stuff" and papers and replace with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. How does it make you feel? Clean out a drawer with thoughts of bringing more opportunities in.

Enter a lighter side of life, realize that your environment affects you the way the food you fuel your body affects you and your health, mentally and physically. If your chi has become stagnate, it's as if you were not getting enough oxygen to your body. In feng shui, there are many remedies and old traditions to learn that can take a lifetime. But, for a simple start, you can raise your chi by: clearing the clutter, playing favorite music you love, using aroma therapy or incense to create wonderful scents, bringing in fresh flowers, and lighting candles, to be on the way to creating a wonderful space for joy and laughter to abound.
