Book Review: Ghost Stories of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County:
Remnants of the past in a new South

Since Halloween is creeeeeeeping up on us, anyone interested in a good ghost story? Or, even better, a collection of ghost stories! I live just outside of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area, but I love to visit often. I drive into the "Queen City" to eat at one of my favorite restaurants or to catch a basketball game. But, now I have several other reasons to venture into town- twenty to be exact.

Ghost Stories of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County is a collection of twenty chilling tales from Queen City native Stephanie Burt Williams. The reader will recognize the sites of the Charlotte hauntings- the houses, restaurants, and movie theatres- but the stories may surprise, amuse, and FRIGHTEN you. BOO!!!

Here is just a sampling….The ghostly handprint of a child appears on a window pane. A long-dead bootlegger leaves wet footprints on stairs. A pair of haunting eyes keeps watch in a costume shop. An unseen hand touches your back. Hear the clump of a peg-legged Civil War officer coming down the stairs. A house filled with a liquid-like darkness, so thick that light can't penetrate it. Or, a ghost chain that can be seen rising beside of the railroad tracks.

Williams' Ghost Stories of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County is an interesting and entertaining read. A fun addition to your regional book collection. And, yes, it does provide you with more reasons to visit and explore the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area. But, you may want to leave before dark!!

Happy Reading
